Our Legacy

Funding the Next Generation was founded in 2013 by Margaret Brodkin, a nationally recognized advocate for children’s rights and public investment in youth. For over a decade, the initiative has successfully secured hundreds of millions of dollars in new public support for children and youth services across California.

Margaret’s pioneering work began in San Francisco and helped establish one of the first dedicated local funds for kids in the country.  Her passionate, tireless and values-driven advocacy laid the foundation for similar efforts statewide - and beyond.  She served as an advocate, administrator, social worker and activist for over five decades. Today she serves as our brilliant and feisty Founder in Residence.
