What We Believe
Every child deserves safety, care, and opportunity. These are the essentials that help young people grow, thrive, and build stronger communities for all of us.
But public resources too often fall short, especially for children and youth in communities that have been historically underfunded and overlooked. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “A budget is a moral document.” If we want a better future for our kids, we have to fund it. At Funding the Next Generation, we believe what gets funded gets done. And we believe local action is one of the most powerful tools we have. Since 2014, we’ve worked to increase locally generated public funding for children and youth, with a focus on voter-approved measures.
Our work is grounded in the belief that communities across California can create lasting solutions—through policies and funding streams that reflect their unique priorities and needs. We know the people closest to the challenges are often closest to the solutions. But they don’t always have the tools or the power to act. That’s where we come in. We help communities organize, build coalitions, and run campaigns so public budgets reflect what really matters: kids, families, and the future we all share.
